The
Political Side - The Cow or any of these creatures Is a
Sign?
On 6/5/2001 the County of Horry in the State
of South Carolina has attempted to issue a summons of violation
that Ordinance Section 1004F which reads "Any vehicle
SIGN where the SIGN projects beyond the manufacturer's profile
of the vehicle or is displayed in public view under such
circumstances as to indicate that the primary purpose of
said display is to attract the attention of the public rather
that to serve the business of the owner thereof in the manner
which is custumary for said vehicle" This ordinance
passed on May 19th 1999. The van was conceived in early
Spring of 1998, built and constructed April 1999 and on
the road in no later than May 11th 1999. Jamin' Leather,
employees and their patrons cannot understand what the reason
is behind this foolish ordinance. We strongly believe it
adds to the mystique of the Myrtle Beach experience for
all who visit. Your comments are welcome just
email
us. We invite
all who visit the Beach area to come and see the Cow Van,
the Crab Van, the Monkey Van, the Shrimp Van, the Pawn Van,
the Lobster Van, the Bathtub Van and all the others I forgot
to list here! Is Jamin Leather's van being singled out?
Should Jamin' Leather's van be grandfathered since it existed
prior to the existence of the ordinance? Is the Cow (not
the van) considered a sign? Wouldn't the van with the lettering
be more in violation because of the attraction to it's lettering
or paint job? Something seems politically wrong here. We
want your opinion. Thank you for reading! |
